Dear Guests: Please note that for the dates of December 8/9/10/11 2016 all rooms and beds at Cave Lodge are booked for the wedding celebration of John's daughter Mindy and her fiance Sam. This is the first time in over 30 years we have done this. We are sorry for any inconvenience but we are happy to take any bookings before and after these dates. Kind regards, John and Nang
Cave Lodge is in the north's most scenic wilderness district - Pang Mapha. We are the longest running guesthouse in Mae Hong Son province and were operating before anyone had heard of Pai. We cater to a wide range of guests from budget backpackers to people seeking some of the best bungalows in the Pang Mapha-Soppong-Tham Lod area. Our restaurant serves a wide range of food from local Shan delicacies to wholewheat bread and muffins baked in our wood-fired ovens. We provide maps and detailed information on anything that is possible in our truly amazing district. We also offer caving, kayaking and trekking tours for exceptional value for money. The original owners/managers are John an Australian and Nang a local Shan from our village-Ban Tham Lod. We live here, know the area intimately, and can help you enjoy it like no one else can.
We designed and built our rustic teak restaurant and charming hillside bungalows. They all face the river, sunrise, moonrise and hills covered with healthy forest. Cave Lodge architecture is loosely based on traditional hilltribe houses. We use lots of natural materials, have an open fireplace in our restaurant, and plenty of space. We like comfort, and relaxed comfortable guests.
We are continually seeking ways to increase our guests enjoyment and satisfaction- including our piping hot, hot water system, comfortable mattresses and soft pillows, herbal steam sauna, professional and affordable massage, fresh baked delicacies, very friendly staff, open and welcoming clean kitchen, ping pong table, great multi-tasted music collection, internet, not to mention all the activities that have made Cave Lodge one of Thailand's "must visit" destinations, like the caves, karst walking, gibbons, bird eating fish, black water kayaking, underground waterfalls, prehistoric coffins, birdlife, biking etc. Some people say one of the best things about the Cave Lodge is that you hear no sounds of cars, motorbikes, or machines. You sleep with the natural sounds of the crickets, cicadas and frogs and wake to the calls of birds or the gentle music of cow bells.Yes, we show no movies or television in our main house, but we do provide a great, relaxed atmosphere where it is easy to meet people, talk, hang in a hammock, ride our swing, read a book and listen to music. Or, get away from it all and sit on our peaceful lawn on the bank of the river.
Accommodation includes basic bungalows, dormitories for solo travellers and bungalows with attached bathrooms for those who want some luxury in the wilderness. Check out our place in the photos link...."worth a thousand words."
Hot, clean showers, winter campfires in the house, helpful and friendly staff, a laid back, hassle-free atmosphere, good information, our own unique bakery, fresh mountain coffee, a selection of fine wines and great Thai, Shan and western food - all at very reasonable prices - will help to make your stay comfortable, affordable and fun.
Prices range from 180 Baht Dorm beds, 300 Baht Huts for one or two with outside bathroom, 400/500/600 Baht Double or twin Bungalows with attached bathrooms to our latest Double Bungalows for 700 Baht per night. We also have several family/group rooms for 4 to 5 up to 12 people. We are always open and welcome everybody. If you want to book a bungalow (recommended from Nov to March), you can call us from anywhere on 053617203 or send us an email. Otherwise, just turn up at the Lodge and we will look after you.
