To reach us

Take a minibus 4 hours from Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Station to Mae Hong Son via Pai and Soppong/Pang Mapha. Get off in Soppong (Pang Mapha) and get a motorbike taxi 8 km to Cave Lodge in Ban Tham Lod – they are in front of the 7-Eleven. You can book minibus tickets online at premprachatransports.com.

For self-drive cars allow 5 hours and small bikes up to 6 hours from Chiang Mai. You can also catch a bus from Mae Hong Son to Pang Mapha (less than 2 hours) or from Pai to Pang Mapha (1 hour). There are flights to Mae Hong Son and Pai, and you can rent cheap bikes in Pai – then it is just over an hour over the mountain… check Google Maps.

By motorbike, car or bicycle

Guests also access the Lodge by rented motorbike, but be careful on the mountain roads, especially in the wet season. Cars or pickup trucks can be hired from companies like North Wheels, Budget, Journey etc. in Chiang Mai – or bicycles: several guests have ridden from Europe! One guy came from Pai on roller skates! You can also trek here from Pai, about 3–4 days over the mountain… do not try this alone! During the dry season there is a 100 km dirt road near the border, over 1,600 m high, north from the Lodge to Pai: off-road bikes only, fill up your tank, don’t go alone!

Groups

If you are a group and want to hire one or more minivans with drivers, Mr Meechai in Chiang Mai has modern, well-maintained vans with excellent drivers at very competitive rates. Phone 081 961 9547. He speaks Thai and English.
